Winton Shire has a population of about 1500 people with around 900 of that in the township.

Winton boasts 3 convenience stores for all your needs, 8 hotels & motels, several cafes, 3 caravan and camping grounds, 2 banking locations, and severals stores selling general household goods, hardware and clothing. There are 3 fueling stations, and several tyre and service centres including an RACQ depot. Also a post office, newsagency, TAB, airport and the usual emergency services can be found in the township.
