Winton Shire Council is developing Wise and Well in Winton in partnership with leading consultants who specialise in Wellness and Ageing. Embracing wellness and wisdom as we age are key to enjoying a good life in Winton. Wise and Well Winton is about ensuring that Winton will be a place where true collaboration will be demonstrated allowing our community to navigate life’s transitions with grace, dignity and a strong focus on personal growth and fulfilment.
Why is council developing a strategy?
The Winton Shire is not dissimilar to other areas in Australia in terms of the ageing population trend. However, the remoteness of the region, combined with the relatively small population base and general overall decline in population in recent years, will increase the challenges locally in terms of planning and implementing strategies and actions that focus on improving outcomes in the aged care space.
However, Council is confident that with the right strategic planning in place to influence government priorities and to guide future actions, the challenges this population change presents can be met successfully, and beneficial results can be achieved for the community. Therefore, Winton Shire Council have committed to see a comprehensive ‘Aged Care Strategy and Action Plan’ for the region created in the current financial year.
What will the strategy do?
The Wise and Well Winton Strategy will document our current levels of services, programs and facilities and set a road map to ensure everyone in our community now, and in the future can access. The roadmap will also identify opportunities for funding to support the required services, programs and potential facilities needed to service our region going forward.
Will the community get a say?
Absolutely. These types of projects will only be successful if there is direct input from our community. Council is urging all residents as well as visitors to our region to participate.
How can I have a say?
A number of ways. Surveys have been prepared for both residents and visitors. These are available online as well as in hardcopy format. Two community information sessions will also be held on Wednesday 8 May 2024. Two sessions will enable as many of our community to come and participate. Further details on these sessions and how to register are below.
Who is doing the strategy?
Through an open Expression of Interest process, Council interviewed a number of parties and then chose to engage a consortium that included firms Booming, Infinitum Partners and National Property Research Co to deliver the work. Booming’s Marcus Riley is an ageing specialist Director of the Global Ageing Network, Chairman BallyCara Limited and Committee Member to the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.
